Dr.Tim Lewis
Tim Lewis, PhD, approaches canine research as an evolutionary ecologist, bringing together decades of academic research and a lifelong connection with dogs and wildlife. Thirty years and seven dogs later, he continues his canine education under the tutelage of two Border Collies, preferring hiking and scent work while hovering on the fringes of agility and canine freestyle.
Tim earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Augustana College and a master’s and doctorate in wildlife ecology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He spent two decades as an award-winning biology professor at Wittenberg University, followed by another 15 years at the University of St. Thomas. His teaching has included ecology, evolution, mammalian and forest biology, tropical ecology, general biology, and the biology of dogs.
His research spans species including wolves, deer, squirrels, turtles, and dogs. For more than 30 years, he has presented his work in scientific journals, at conferences, and as an invited speaker. He is also the author of The Biology of Dogs: From Gonads Through Guts to Ganglia.
