Dr. Lindell: Drug Intervention
Hi there, I enjoyed learning from this webinar about various drug uses for behaviors in dogs. I was wondering if you have any insight/advice on how to treat dogs that have behavior problems which appear to be genetic. For example, a purebred border collie with fear aggression who's entire litter also display fear aggreassion towards strangers. The litter was bred and raised by reputable breeder but almost every pup, which all had different owners, seemed to develop fear agression towards people at some point with the earliest signs around 2-3 months of age. Is there a specific drug that might work better than others when the behavior seems to truly be a result of genetics vs. environment and upbringing? The dog is now 8 years old and still displays the fear aggressive behavior towards strangers as well as general anxiety with loud noises/thunderstorms. Also, the dog has been on fluoxetine for a few years with no noticeable changes in behavior. Thank you.
