Martha Hoffman has been involved with the training and placement of over 250 Hearing Dogs in the past ten years at the SF-SPCA Hearing Dog Program. She has temperament tested over ten thousand dogs for suitability for this work. Martha’s first dog, “Trivar’s Planet Niji, CDX”, a Yorkie, played Toto for six months in Steve Silver’s stage production, “Beach Blanket Babylon”, and bought Martha her first new car. Martha’s Border Collie, Scotswood Sly Jinx, CDX, TD, AD, was the 1990 USDAA National Champion, placed fourth and eight in the 24" class at the USDAA Nationals in subsequent years, and appeared on the David Letterman show. Her male Malinois, Amok ot Vitosha, Sch 3, IPO 3, has gone with Martha to Europe representing the US several times for World FCI Championships, Deutsche Meisterschaft, and Belgian Shepherd world championship competitions. Gotcha ot Vitosha, a young female Malinois, is doing well as Martha’s Hearing Dog and acting as a guinea pig for Martha to learn service dog training on. Martha’s book, “Lend Me An Ear,” describes temperament testing and training of potential Hearing Dogs.
