Susan Garrett

Susan Garrett is one of the most successful competitors in agility today. She has won the USDAA Grand Prix Finals three times and is the only handler in history to win two different height divisions (12" & 24") in the same year. At the 1998 NADAC National Finals, Susan's dogs again won two different height divisions (8" & 12"). In all, she has won five National Championships with three different dogs (Border Collie, "Stoni" and Jack Russell Terriers, "Shelby" and "Twister"). As if that wasn’t enough Susan has also won the Illustrious Pup- Peroni Classic Agility Tournament three times, twice with Shelby and once with Twister.

She works well with both "mini" and "open" dogs proving this by earning USDAA’s prestigious ADCH title on both a 12" and a 24" jumping dog.

Susan and Stoni are also recognized as one of Canada’s Top Competition Obedience teams. In a period of three years of entering the World Series of Dog Obedience, one of North America’s top obedience tournaments, Stoni has finished as high as 2nd and no less then 5th in the Top Dog Event (Open & Utility). In doing so her average has never been below 195 in the two classes. Stoni was awarded Pedigree Dog Foods Obedience Dog of the Year in Canada for the Miscellaneous Class in 1996. Susan has earned High In Trial awards and Dog World awards on each of the four dogs she has competed with in competition obedience (including 2 Border Collies and 2 Jack Russell Terriers).

In addition to all of that, Susan has two dogs racing on the number one flyball team in the World, currently holding the record with a blazing 16.06 seconds. They do it all, and do it all extremely well!

Susan’s understanding of the use of operant conditioning to train dogs and teach people, has earned her world wide recognition. She has taught people on the application of clicker training for obedience, agility, flyball and trick training throughout North America and as far away as Japan and England. Her dogs work with a happy attitude and great precision. They obviously enjoy their work as much as Susan enjoys working with them.

A natural teacher and entertaining speaker, Susan loves dogs, and loves helping others achieve a special relationship with their dog. Her honesty, down-to-earth attitude, energy and wonderful sense of humor makes her presentations a memorable one for all in attendance.
