Canine Aggression Workshop (attendance limited to 35) |
|
Thursday thru Sunday October 23-26, 2003 9:00 am - 4:00 pm each day 30 minute lunch break each day |
| This is not a working seminar for your dog. Only shelter dogs will be used in the workshop. |
Canine Aggression is a course that picks up where other courses stop. This is not a course for beginners as the problems of aggression are covered in some depth. A good background in practical handling and training would be helpful prior to attending this intensive course. Although designed as a stand alone course it is ideally suited to those students who have already studied dog behavior in some depth including handling aggressive dogs. Workshop includes: DAY ONE examines the relationship that owners have with their dogs and also looks at defining what is meant by aggression as distinct from an aggressive display. We examine genetics and the role that the environment plays in the development as well as the many and varied breed traits. DAY TWO looks at dogs that are aggressive towards people and the reasons that this occurs. We also look at categorizing aggression and also examine how we assess and then measure behavior prior to and during a behavior program. DAY THREE looks at dogs that aggressive towards other dogs and once again examines the reasons behind this behavior. Strategies for carrying out behavioral evaluations on dog/dog aggression area covered and also strategies for improving a dog's behavior. DAY FOUR looks at behavior modification programs used in reversing aggressive behavior and also looks at spontaneous recovery, allellomimetic behavior, the effect of hormones on aggressive behavior and the reduction of aggression through control training. |
