OUTLINE
Canine Aggression Workshop
(attendance limited to 35)
Thursday thru Sunday • October 23-26, 2003
9:00 am - 4:00 pm each day
30 minute lunch break each day
This is not a working seminar for your dog. Only shelter dogs will be used in the workshop.

Canine Aggression is a course that picks up where other courses stop. This is not a course for beginners as the problems of aggression are covered in some depth. A good background in practical handling and training would be helpful prior to attending this intensive course. Although designed as a stand alone course it is ideally suited to those students who have already studied dog behavior in some depth including handling aggressive dogs.

Workshop includes:

DAY ONE examines the relationship that owners have with their dogs and also looks at defining what is meant by aggression as distinct from an aggressive display. We examine genetics and the role that the environment plays in the development as well as the many and varied breed traits.

DAY TWO looks at dogs that are aggressive towards people and the reasons that this occurs. We also look at categorizing aggression and also examine how we assess and then measure behavior prior to and during a behavior program.

DAY THREE looks at dogs that aggressive towards other dogs and once again examines the reasons behind this behavior. Strategies for carrying out behavioral evaluations on dog/dog aggression area covered and also strategies for improving a dog's behavior.

DAY FOUR looks at behavior modification programs used in reversing aggressive behavior and also looks at spontaneous recovery, allellomimetic behavior, the effect of hormones on aggressive behavior and the reduction of aggression through control training.

Workshop Fee

$385.00
On your own for lunch each day.

DOGGIE DAYCARE

K-9 Insight is located adjacent to a doggie daycare, Planet Pooch. If you want to bring your dog you can take advantage of their daycare facility. To do so, your dog must have passed a temperament screening and spent one full day at the daycare prior to the workshop. Be sure to make arrangements for an "interview" at Planet Pooch well in advance as these appointments get filled very quickly! If you are interested call 650-364-7792 to make an appointment. Let the receptionist know that you are enrolled for the October John Rogerson Aggression Workshop at K-9 Insight and you will receive a 10% discount on the daycare and the "interview" for free (regular price $10).

DOG RULES

DOG STUFF
Dogs may lay by your chair in the seminar room as long as they remain quiet, leashed and under control at all times. Due to limited space no crates will be allowed at the workshop. This is not a working seminar for your dog. Only shelter dogs will be used in the workshop.

If your dog can't be remain quiet, please don't bring your dog. Any dog that is disruptive or behaves in an aggressive manner as determined by event staff will be requested to leave. Any dog that has "personal space issues" is not allowed in the seminar room. Remember chairs are right next to each other and people and dogs may be stepping over your dog. It is not a nice experience to be snarled at when dogs/people have to walk "over" your dog.

DAYCARE ETIQUETTE
When at the facility please DO NOT approach windows and gates where the dogs at the daycare are held.

CLEAN UP ETIQUETTE
You are responsible for cleaning up after your dog. There are no excuses for not picking up after your dog EVERYWHERE.
