SEMINAR OUTLINE |
POSITIVE POSSIBILITIES
LIMTED TO 50. Two day attendance required. |
Saturday & Sunday August 2 -3, 2003
9:00 - 5:00 pm lunch break 12:30-1:30 pm |
THE REALLY RELIABLE RECALL (RRR)
During this segment learn an easy, effective way to teach your
dog to come when called even when he is busy doing something
else. The RRR works great with any age, any breed, anywhere.
Leslie developed the RRR from thirty years of teaching her
afghan hounds to come back to her. It relies on positive
reinforcement and involves no physical or verbal correction. It
can easily be adapted to any training program and gives pet
owners and professionals alike a dog that will leave what he is
doing, no matter how enjoyable, and come running every time.
This will be a hands-on workshop and dogs with recall issues or
young dogs just starting training are encouraged to
attend.
STRUCTURING YOUR POSITIVE TRAINING PROGRAM: The Food Issue
The reward (food) and effective techniques of its use
How to create a bridge between the word and the reward
Techniques for getting the food out of the trainer's hands
and avoiding the food trap....when my dog knows I don't have
food he doesn't listen!
NO MORE LEASHES
Off leash training right from the start. When trainers use
luring and targeting and they understand schedules of
reinforcement, teaching off leash control is easy and effective.
WEEK BY WEEK OF FAMILY DOG 1
Curriculum discussion and demonstration of instructions. Family
Dog 1 is an introductory class for dogs of all ages that are
just beginning training. This includes teaching your dog to be
attentive, come when called, walk politely on leash, lie down
and stay. Management skills, socialization and problem solving
will also be stressed.

THE IMPOSSIBLE PUPPY
If you have been working with dogs for any length of time, you
have met this guy. He's the one who can disrupt an entire
training class, turn even the most positive trainer towards
violence and leave his well-intentioned owners yearning for a
cat! Dominant, aggressive, bites, barks, jumps, doesn't listen,
stubborn, pulls are just a few of the words used to describe
this pup. During this talk Leslie offers some positive solutions
that work with all dogs, but can be especially effec tive when
dealing with The Impossible Puppy. These solutions can help
prevent him from becoming the Disposable Dog.
MANAGEMENT OF THE DISRUPTIVE DOG
Positive solutions for the disruptive dog in class.
Aggression directed at other dogs
Using a reward method
Providing enough personal space
Teaching owners to recognize precursors to aggressive behavior
Arranging free play opportunities
Knowing when to remove a dog from class and recommend alternatives
WEEK BY WEEK OF FAMILY DOG 2
Curriculum discussion and demonstration of instructions. A
continuation of Family Dog 1. Owners use skills learned in your
previous class to teach dogs to respond reliably during
increased exposure to distractions. Finish training the Really
Reliable Recall, teach control at a distance and prepare your
dog to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizenship Test.
